This guide will show you how to open an image, crop it to a specific size, and save it as a WEBP file using Photopea. The size we’ll be showing is 1200 x 630. This is a standard size that is used for Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and most Blog Post Images, and can be used for YouTube Covers as well.
Navigate to Photopea.com
Photopea | Online Photo Editor
Open Photopea and Choose ‘Open From Computer’
Go to www.photopea.com and click on the ‘Open From Computer’ button to select an image from your files.
*TIP: You always want to crop your images smaller than they started. If you’re trying to make a smaller image bigger, don’t crop it first. Try and get a bigger starting version, otherwise you can use some Ai tools to try and make it larger before you crop it, but starting with the bigger highest quality image is always better.
Image Opened
The chosen image is now open in Photopea. We’re going to use the “Crop Tool” in the left panel.
Select the Crop Tool and Choose ‘Fixed Size’
Click on the crop tool in the left-hand toolbar, then select ‘Fixed Size’ from the menu on top, this will let us set exactly what the output will be.
Enter Width for The Crop
Type in the desired width for the cropped image (e.g., 1200).
Enter Height for Crop
Type in the desired height for the cropped image (e.g., 630).
Enter Height for Crop
Type in the desired height for the cropped image (e.g., 630).
Adjust the Crop Region
Use the crop dots on the corners to enlarge or shrink the crop to the desired size. The dimensions are set in the previous step, so enlarging or shinking this crop area will still output an image at 1200 x 630.
Adjust the Crop Region
When you have the size of your crop set where you want, clicking inside of the crop and dragging will allow you to move the cropped area around the screen.
Adjust the Crop Region
Find the exact size and location that you want to use, then double click anywhere inside of the cropped area to create the newly cropped image.
Displaying it on your screen correctly.
After selecting the cropping the image, it may display very small on your monitor. Don’t worry it’s still 1200 x 600, you’re just zoomed out, you need to zoom in so that it is the full size, you can do this with the magnifying glass on the left.
Image Cropped
After double clicking the magnifying glass your image should now be set to 100% on screen size.
Save The Image – Select ‘Export As’ and then ‘WEBP’
Click on File -> Export As -> WEBP
Adjust WEBP Quality and Save
Adjust the image quality using the slider, then click the ‘Save’ button. I find that 85% is the perfect mix of quality with low file size.
File Saved – Try it with another pre-set size
The image is saved to your computer.
*Tip: You can do this with any size. If you have a banner image you might be using something like 2200 x 500, or 1920 x 1080, or you may be trying to match the size of an image on a website that is positioned perfectly and you need to use the exact same size for the replacement.
