Create Your Own Path - You Don't Have To Fit The Mold.
I graduated from the Art Institute of Dallas in 1997 with a degree in Computer Animation and Multimedia. My original dream was to make video games. But I didn’t fit neatly into the two categories I saw around me: dedicated artists and skilled programmers, I was just a guy that liked games.
Fundementals Are Fundemental
In my first year of school, we focused on fundamental art classes like design, typography, and color theory. While many of my classmates resisted this approach, I embraced it. I’m grateful I did, as the fundamentals remain constant despite the tools changing over time. This concept will play a big role when we discuss AI later.
How The Real World Works
After college, I started working as a game tester at Midway Home Entertainment. (Mortal Kombat) I learned that networking and people skills (soft skills) are just as if not more important than talent.
Imposter Syndrome Happens
At my first design job I was convinced I was the only person who knew how unqualified I was. My curiosity about new technology and my eagerness to learn allowed me to thrive. I worked really hard doing as much as I could, trying and failing a lot.

Recognize Your Strengths
I started GlamourDog and I was able to find leverage in my existing knowledge to create opportunities. It was a valuable lesson in recognizing what you bring to the table. I was good at design, and I loved dogs and was interested in e-Commerce.
Stack Your Knowledge
At TUK Shoes, I applied everything I learned as a business owner and helped double the company's revenue by launching their online store. This experience solidified my belief in the power of leveraging previous lessons for success.
Get Paid To Learn
At RhinoGroup.com, I took a step back to gain broader knowledge. I learned the value of getting paid to learn—finding a position that allows you to absorb as much as possible from various challenges.
Take Risks
Finally, I founded CW Dynamic in 2023. A key lesson I’ve learned is that the greatest way to master a topic is to teach it. Becoming valuable in your field is essential.

Average Information (A.I.)
Now, let’s talk about AI. My perspective differs from the common fears of AI taking jobs. From my viewpoint, AI is a powerful tool for those who are already experts. It pulls from existing knowledge, much of which isn’t high quality. If you can't discern good from bad information, you won’t know how to adapt or improve.
AI can provide answers to countless questions, but knowing what questions to ask is far more crucial. Understanding the 'why' behind the information is vital. While AI can generate infinite responses, true expertise comes from comprehending the nuances of your field. By mastering your skills, you can leverage AI to enhance your capabilities.

And The Moral Of The Story Is
In closing, remember: embrace the fundamentals, network effectively, allow yourself to learn, do the things that you would otherwise do for free, and you will become an expert in your chosen field.
