Hey everyone, so this is going to be a quick video showing you how to give access to Google Search Console to whoever needs it. We’re going to start right here from Google, and we’re just going to search for Google Search Console. We’re going to need to log in since this account was not logged in yet.
Now, I should mention, the most important part here is that you’re currently logged into the owner account of Google Search Console. So, you’re going to want to make sure whatever account you are in has owner rights to your Google Search Console account.
As a reminder, each Google account is only going to have one login, so whether that’s logging into Search Console, or even your email, or analytics, or your Google My Business profile, every single Google account will have one login that will get you into everything.
You may get one of these two-factor screens here, so I will check my phone, click that, and it should update automatically. It did, so now we are logged in. Once you’re logged into a Search Console account, you’re going to potentially have access to several different properties, which Google Search Console refers to as properties.
In this little section over here, you’re going to have a drop-down menu. This is going to show you different websites or properties that you have. Typically, you’re going to have at least the domain property, and then also you have website properties or any other element of a website.
So, in this case, for instance, my website has the domain property of CW Dynamic. I also have a subdomain that I use for some of my tools, and then the primary website here.
You’re going to want to make sure that the access you’re providing is to the property that you want to give. In most cases, if you’re giving this to someone, they want to see your website, so you would want to actually not do the domain, make sure it’s not a subdomain, and then click on the actual website that you want to give access to. Additionally, it’s important to verify that the permissions you grant align with the level of access needed. If you’re using a platform like Namecheap, you may also want to consider how to manage your domain settings to ensure everything remains secure. To do this effectively, you might need to add an admin for Namecheap domain, which will allow for better collaborative management of your online presence.
With that selected, what you’ll need to do at this point is just go over here to settings. When you’re in settings, the first thing is going to show you up here if you are an owner or verified owner.
In order to give permissions to someone else, you have to be at least an owner. Then, the process, if you are an owner, you can proceed. If you’re not the owner on this account that you’re logged into, you will need to change the Google account to an owner account, or to a different Google account that has owner rights.
But once you’re here, you can just click on the users and permissions button. We’re just going to click add users, and then I’ll put in a fake email here real quick.
This next section is going to ask if you want to give them full permission, restricted, or owner. In most cases, you’re probably going to be giving this to someone who just wants to view the data. If they’re just viewing the data, the full access is fine. If it’s someone who is going to be doing work on your website, owner is what they will most likely need.
So, if you’re providing this, you’re watching this email or video to add me to your Search Console, what you’ll need to type in here is my email address, which is casey@cwdynamic.com, and I will need owner access. Then, we would just click add. In this case, I’ll show you the process with the fake email again, going to call that owner, and I will click add. That is really all you need to do.
But just to show you also, really quickly, if the project is over for some reason, and I’m not working with this person, I don’t want them to have access. It’s very easy; I can just come over to these three little dots, click the dots, change permission, or completely remove access. I could just change them, move them down to full, or even restricted, hit save, and that’s going to be updated.
As soon as I add this person, what’s going to happen is they’re going to get an email notification from Google letting them know that they have access now, and they will see this automatically in their Search Console. So, if they asked you, they know how to get there, they’ll be able to get to your information, and you’ll be all set.
So, if you have any questions, or if I can help you out, feel free to reach out, Thanks!
